The Batman
I remember the first time I saw a Batman movie. It was 1989 and Tim Burton’s Batman was literally everywhere. You could not go into a mall (remember those?) in America without seeing Batman merchandise in every window. I was 6 when my dad took me. It was unlike any other iteration of Batman I had ever seen. It definitely wasn’t anything like the Adam West TV show I used to watch in the afternoons after school.
From that moment on it became an unspoken tradition for my dad and I to see the Batman movies in theaters when they would come out. Yes, even the horrible Batman and Robin. The most recent iteration of Batman in the movies, The Batman, was the first Batman movie that we could not see in theaters together. Neither of us were comfortable spending almost 3 hours in a theater in an area where masks are rarely worn. I did finally see the movie, at home, on HBOMax, and I loved every minute of it.
The Batman that is depicted in The Batman is the most Batman Batman to ever Batman. If you grew up reading the comics, especially storylines like The Long Halloween, you’ll instantly recognize this Batman and this Gotham City. The movie is a detective noir story that oftentimes feels like the movie Seven, with constant dusk and darkness, torrential rain, and seedy alleyways. This is the comic. The Batman isn’t a gritty reboot of the franchise, this is what the franchise is at its heart.
I know DC and Warner Bros. has plans for a spinoff with the Penguin character. I just hope they stay true to the themes, ideas, and atmosphere that director Matt Reeves created. I wouldn’t mind living in this world for a little longer. πΏ
Currently reading Hip Hop Family Tree. π

I enjoyed Inside Eats with Rhett and Link on Food Network. Their charm from their YouTube show translated pretty well. πΊ
I’m having fun playing around with micro.blog again. Figuring out custom templates and plugins. I now have replies shown on posts and a reply on micro.blog button.
Every time I’d launch the app store on my iPad it would crash instantly. Rebooted and the same thing still happened. Took it off the Magic Keyboard and launched it and it loaded fine. Put it back on the keyboard and still launched fine. Weird.
So it’s been a long while since I’ve logged into micro.blog. How do you modify a design’s CSS now that themes have been moved to plugins? I don’t see a way to to do it. CC @manton
Wish I was in bed still.

Reactivated my micro.blog account now that it looks like a certain megalomaniac is going to buy the bird site.
I’m glad I don’t use Spotify to listen to podcasts. www.theverge.com/2020/1/8/…
In case you weren’t aware, Brian McKnight has a Christmas album. You’re welcome in advance.
Finally getting around to watching For All Mankind. It is really good, but I love anything involving the space program.
At work I went from a 13 inch MacBook Pro to the new 16 inch MBP. I love the bigger screen size. It seemed huge at first but I’m loving the extra screen real estate. It’s a really nice computer.
My Apple Watch keeps running out of space. I don’t sync music, photos, or contacts. I have very few apps installed. Just started happening over the past couple of weeks. I guess it’s time for a full reset.
I started taking my iPad to meetings instead of full laptop (unless itβs a meeting where I specifically need it). Itβs a great device for what I need it for and is less distracting in meetings than a laptop.
I have a feeling Iβll be working from home tomorrow. Roads donβt look good and more snow coming tomorrow.
Sidecar on macOS is a blessing when you canβt connect to normal external monitors. Has been a lifesaver for me while I wait for a new computer.
I really wish my work allowed employees to bring in their dogs. Or I just need to find a job in which I play with dogs all day (and pays really well).
Iβm getting a 16 inch MBP at work today. At least I hope I am. FedEx has it and itβs supposed to be delivered today.
